Level Up! Get Designer Looks With Custom Fabric
With all of the ready made furniture, draperies and throw pillows at our finger tips it’s easy to overlook adding custom fabric to your design plan. If you skim through any design & home magazine, you will see loads and loads of custom fabrics paired by color and pattern to create a custom look that feels simultaneously lived in and like a work of art. That’s the beauty of custom fabric. There is always a bit of hesitation with custom fabric so I brought in a master.
Jen is the Showroom Manager at Charles Ray Fabrics in the Dallas Market Center. This is hands down my favorite fabric store in Dallas partially because Jen is a wizard when it comes to fabrics. She previously owned her own Interior Design business so she knows color and knows how to create an end product that will suit your space.
I asked Jen a few questions regarding the process:Â
Q: What is the most inexpensive way to use fabric in a space to make it look custom?Â
I would say all of the above. Draperies hands down can transform a room, but I do love an accent chair covered in unexpected dramatic fabric.Â
Q: What fabric combination gives your space a designer look?Â
Using a solid on your sofa is always practical and allows you to change things up later. As for giving your space a designer look, use something unexpected. Like that fabric that you absolutely love but are afraid it doesn’t match, is too much, or you might tire of…use it!
Q: What is your favorite thing about working in fabric? What do you think it does for people to live in a custom space?Â
I love helping someone find a fabric that they fall in love with and can’t live without. There are so many places that you can buy ready made furniture covered with an average fabric these days. Creating something custom from beginning to end is an amazing feeling…it’s design!Â
